Kurt, Jimmie swap paint and words

Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson traded paint. It might be awhile until they exchange pleasantries. Busch was fuming with Johnson after two of NASCAR’s top stars got into some late-race bumping Saturday night at Chicagoland Speedway that left each of them wondering if one has a problem with the other. Johnson, though, seemed more ready to move on and let the incident slide. Busch might still be upset when the Sprint Cup series picks up July 26 at Indianapolis.   Thatsracin

Jimmie Johnson: NASCAR needs manufacturers

Jimmie Johnson, the reigning champion and a Chevy driver for Hendrick Motorsports, feels factory support should continue on, just as it has since the Pettys built Chryslers with factory support and John Holman and Ralph Moody operated Ford’s racing operation in the 1950s. “You break it down to motorsports and how important the manufacturers are-what the manufacturers get from racing,” Johnson said. “We need them. We need each other. It’s affecting our lives, our livelihoods, our families and our sport that we care for and love, so that stuff gets everybody’s attention. Hopefully over time we’re able to show how important racing is for the manufacturer and if there are any critics that don’t believe in that, we can change their minds and show them.” — Lexington Dispatch

Johnson Wins At Martinsville

It was Jimmie Johnson first win of the season for the three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, and the 41st of his career.

Johnson nudged Denny Hamlin aside in the third and fourth turns with 15 laps to go at Martinsville Speedway, and gave team owner Rick Hendrick  the perfect place to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his first victory in NASCAR’s premier series.

Johnson and Hamlin had differing views of the pass that gave Johnson his fifth victory in the last six races on NASCAR’s smallest, trickiest track. Hamlin said it was a bump and standard short-track fare, while Johnson thought the video would change Hamlin’s opinion.
