Frustration mounting for Biffle before free agency
Greg Biffle is the choicest of drivers on the free-agent market when the 2008 Sprint Cup season ends. Roush Fenway Racing would like to keep Biffle in its No. 16 Fords for the foreseeable future, just as it did last week by signing one of his teammates, Carl Edwards, to a contract extension through 2011. But after suffering engine failure while leading and finishing last in Saturday night’s Dodge Challenger 500, Biffle hinted that the team isn’t doing what’s needed to ensure that he stays put. “It is really frustrating, but you know what? I’ve just become accustomed to expecting it because week after week it’s something,” he said. “Something breaks. Something falls off. We’ve got wheels loose. We had wheels loose twice tonight. “The guys are digging their hearts out, but the fact of the matter is that in this sport, in this day and age, you cannot leave wheels loose ? not at a place this fast. Somebody’s going to get hurt.” – Fayetteville Observer

I really have to wonder now, if all of the speculation of a Newman / Biffle swap could end up happening at the end of all this. For me, it’s more than just Biffle’s comments following the race, but also the fact that I don’t think he’s content with being the third spoke in the Roush wheel - behind Edwards and Kenseth. Furthermore, they were supposed to get this deal done last year, and they never did … kinda makes you wonder.
