Drivers split on repaving of Daytona

Repavement of Daytona International Speedway might be in the race track’s plans in the next few years. If NASCAR and Goodyear deem it necessary, DIS will likely put together a plan for repaving in 2012 — but the track doesn’t want to do it unless it absolutely has to. “It’s definitely not the cost and it’s not the technology because we [ International Speedway Corp.] just did Talladega,” said Robin Braig, president of DIS. “It’s our great friends at the NASCAR sanctioning body and Goodyear. They will give us advice on when we need to repave. ? We’re very comfortable with it.” Wednesday, drivers were divided about what they’d like to see happen. “It’s a terrible time to ask anybody to pave a racetrack,” Earnhardt said. “If anyone needs it, it’s probably Daytona.” South Florida Sun-Sentinel
