Truex taken to hospital

Martin Truex Jr. left the garage shortly after Cup practice ended complaining of pain in his side.

“I think it’s kidney stones,” said the driver of the No. 1 Bass Pro Shop Chevrolet for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing.

Truex was seen in the Atlanta Motor Speedway infield care centerĀ and transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

However, that should not change his status for Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500, where he is slated to start 23rd.

“As of right now, we expect him to be in the car,” said John Olguin, a spokesman for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing.
